Chuck Michel On The Impact Of The Illinois Gun Ban Case
Illinois is trying to outpace California and New York in anti–Second Amendment legislation. In 2023, the state passed HB 5471, often referred to as the Protect Illinois Communities Act (PICA), banning semi-automatic rifles, common handguns, and nearly half of all magazines in the U.S.
Second Amendment defenders in Illinois rose to the challenge, resulting in a series of cases consolidated under Barnett v. Raoul, which are being argued before the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals as of the writing of this email.
CRPA President Chuck Michel joins CRPA TV to break down what happened in oral arguments earlier this week, how this case could affect California’s assault weapons ban, and why SCOTUS may soon have to weigh in.
