Young Adult Gun Ban Stalled For Now

July 2, 2018

As many of you know, some of our lawmakers have made raising the age to purchase a long gun a top gun control priority. Supported by anti-gun sycophants like the Brady Campaign and the Giffords Group, anti-gun legislators are working hard to strip away the rights of California’s young adults.

They claim that raising the age to purchase a firearm will make us safer, they claim that they are just trying to make firearm laws “more uniform”. Their claims couldn’t be further from the truth. Raising the age to purchase a firearm will do nothing to keep us safer; its only result will be a disarmed and defenseless class of young adults. The assertion that raising the age will standardize gun laws is preposterous. If lawmakers were really concerned with a uniform age for purchasing a firearm, they would set the law at 18.

Thankfully, due to the actions of dedicated 2nd Amendment supporters like yourself, this bill has stalled in the Senate Appropriations Committee. For the time being, AB 3 is sitting in the suspense file with finance in opposition. Thankfully, finance recognized the disastrous fiscal cost this bill would have on the department of fish and wildlife, as it essentially age gates hunting to people 21+.

Unfortunately, despite this significant delay, AB 3 is not dead yet. CRPA and its allies will continue to monitor this bill to ensure that it does not raise its ugly head. Though the bill is stalled for now, be ready to answer the call to action should it arise. Thank you for your support!
