“Spot” Bill Becomes Glock Ban

May 1, 2025

By now, most of you are familiar with how “spot” bills are used in Sacramento. Lawmakers introduce a vague bill that says basically nothing, sometimes even passing it through committees in that form, and then later add more substantial language.

Such is the case with AB 1127, which was recently amended by author Asm. Jesse Gabriel to seek a ban on firearms that could be modified to include so-called “Glock switches” that make them fully automatic. Those modifications are already illegal and banning otherwise legal firearms is blatantly unconstitutional, but the gun control crew and their deep-pocketed funders don’t seem to care much.

To help provide insight into this bill, the motivations of its supporters, and the road ahead, CRPA Legislative Director Rick Travis stopped by CRPA TV to chat with host Kevin Small.

You may recall Asm. Gabriel as the author of the 11% excise tax that CRPA is challenging in court as you read this.  Clearly, he’s undaunted by the fact that his bills don’t pass constitutional muster.

This is what we’re up against! Billionaires like Soros and Bloomberg fund the campaigns of lawmakers to get these lame ideas introduced and spreading around the country.
