AB 757 Struck Down While AB 521 Moves On

April 5, 2017

Today, the Assembly Public Safety Committee struck down AB 757, which would have made California a “shall issue” state, leaving law-abiding Californians in certain counties to deal with an overburdensome process when attempting to acquire a CCW permit.

CRPA applauds Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez for her efforts to allow all Californians to protect themselves and their families and looks forward to working with her to preserve the Second Amendment in California throughout the rest of the legislative session. Please contact Assemblywoman Melendez to thank her for her efforts.

Although AB 757 was struck down, there was some good news in the Capitol today. AB 521, which will reduce the cost of an Elk Tag from $450 to $67, was approved unanimously by the Assembly Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee. If AB 521 is enacted into law, more Californians will be able to take part in hunting, which will help undo the steady decline of hunting that has been seen over the last twenty years.

Please contact Assemblyman Jim Frazier to thank him for his efforts on AB 521

AB 521 will now move onto the Assembly Appropriations Committee, so please stay alert as we will need you to contact the Assembly Appropriations Committee when the time comes.
