CCW Training Bill Signed Into Law

The overreaching hand of government has struck again. California legislation has been passed and signed into law by Governor Jerry Brown that would mandate firearms training and handling to receive a CCW.

Starting January 1, 2019, those who apply for a CCW permit will be required to go through at least eight hours of training as well as live-fire shooting before a decision can be made to issue a permit.

This bill is completely unnecessary since issuing authorities already require basic range qualification and safety classes to be issued a CCW. Of course, AB 2013, is another unnecessary piece of legislation that will allow California Democrats to shout out a victory for gun control. Democratic Assemblyman Todd Gloria will add AB 2103 to a long list of reasons why he should appear as an advocate for “gun sense laws” and use it in his re-election campaign for the upcoming midterm election.

Assemblyman Todd Gloria is the same legislator that opposed the Del Mar Gun Show and supported the abrupt cancellation and suspension of guns shows at this location with letters written to the Board of Directors of the 22nd District Agricultural Association. This body controls who and what is hosted at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and the related contracts.

Gloria can be quoted saying, “…it is my firm belief that the State of California should in no way help to facilitate the sale of firearms.”

This bill is unnecessary and is simply political grandstanding. AB 2103 will do virtually nothing to the CCW issuance process, exists simply to be an asset to the resume of California Democrats. They will claim this is another win for California gun reform; that California leads the way in gun law reform. When in reality, this bill is hardly helpful or injurious to gun-advocate and gun control activists alike.
