CRPA TV Gets The Latest On SCOTUS From Chuck Michel

April 8, 2025

Yesterday, the Supreme Court rejected the opportunity to hear the case of Antonyuk v. James, a challenge to New York’s “sensitive places” concealed carry law.  While disappointing, the move was far from shocking.  Like California, New York passed its law in the wake of the Bruen decision, seeking to skirt around the ruling.

What does this mean for challenges to other “sensitive places” lawsuits around the country (including CRPA’s own challenge to SB 2, May v. Bonta)?  What does this signal about the Court’s willingness to take a new 2A case, which seems highly necessary these days?  And, if the Court, does take a new case, which might it be?

In the latest installment of CRPA TV, President & General Counsel Chuck Michel joins host Kevin Small to address these questions and look ahead to what we might see from the Court in the coming months.  Snope, Ocean State Tactical, and other cases are queued up for the Court to take, and Duncan v. Bonta will seek certiorari soon as well.

Time and again, the Supreme Court has remanded cases like Antonyuk to lower courts to have them review those decisions in light of Bruen.  But judges in antagonistic bodies like the Second and Ninth Circuit continue to play games.  Clarification MUST come soon!

CRPA still needs your help to keep up the fight!  As Chuck explains, we are getting closer every day, but fighting at the Supreme Court level is costly.  Your contributions will fuel our collective victory!
