AB 2047 Cracks Down On 3D Printing

March 31, 2026

It never seems enough for Sacramento lawmakers to have laws on the books that criminalize actual bad behavior (in fact, we had to pass a ballot measure just to get laws enforced). No, where guns are involved, they want to outlaw even the potential to create a firearm.

In the latest installment of CRPA TV, host Kevin Small welcomes back Legislative Director Rick Travis for a look at AB 2047 and the (quite complicated) scheme it threatens to put in place regarding 3D printing. It seems that regulating thoughts, ideas, and lines of code, at the expense of others of course, is all well and good with lawmakers as long as they can claim to be “getting the guns.”
