Briefing Completed Request, Supreme Court Review Peruta

March 8, 2017

As reported earlier, CRPA’s attorneys filed a petition with the United States Supreme Court on January 12, 2017, asking the Court to review the case of Peruta v. California, which seeks to confirm that the Second Amendment protects the right to carry a firearm for self-defense.

On March 7, 2017, the California Rifle and Pistol Association, along with the other plaintiffs in the case, filed their reply brief in support of the petition. The reply brief follows a number of critical amicus curiae briefs that were filed in support of the petition and concludes the briefing in support of the request for Supreme Court review.

The briefs are now being circulated to and reviewed by the Justices and their respective clerks. The Supreme Court could begin considering whether to accept the Peruta case during the Court’s conference on March 24, although consideration of whether to accept the case could be held over for multiple conferences.

Please stay tuned for the latest updates on whether the Supreme Court will hear this important case.
