Victory In Sacramento!

September 26, 2016

Governor Brown Vetoes Two Anti-firearm Bills And Signs One Pro-Second Amendment Bill!

Because of all your hard work in assisting the CRPA and NRA, the Governor vetoed both AB 450 and SB 1332!

Your commitment to preserving the Second Amendment in California is truly appreciated and this victory would not have been possible without your support.

While there are still many fights ahead, including the battle against Prop 63, this is truly a great day for those who support the right to choose to own a gun for sport or protection!

In addition to these two vetoes, the Governor signed AB 2510, which will help ease the burden on those who have a CCW permit. The CRPA, NRA and all of our allies would like to thank Assemblyman Eric Linder for putting forth this tremendous piece of legislation.

A brief synopsis of the bills vetoed by the Governor can be found below:

AB 450 (McCarty): AB 450 clarifies current law regarding concealed weapon permits and mandates the issuing authority to charge a fee which is “sufficient” to cover the cost of issuing and overseeing CCW permits. If signed into law, AB 450 would remove the current cap on CCW permits and will allow for fees to skyrocket in the jurisdictions that choose to do so. This would result in individuals becoming unable to obtain their CCW permit due to unreasonable costs.

SB 1332 (Mendoza): SB 1332 establishes restrictions and regulations on the loaning of firearms. SB 1332 also mandates the Department of Justice to modify its registration form so that both spouses and domestic partners may register as the owners of a firearm. This bill will lead to a raid of DROS funds.

A brief synopsis of the pro-CCW bill signed by the Governor can be found below:

AB 2510 (Linder): AB 2510 allows local law enforcement authorities to issue carry concealed weapons (CCW) identification cards approved by the State of California Department of Justice (CA DOJ) as proof that individuals are licensed in the state.

Thank you for helping CRPA achieve these multiple victories and for standing with us as we defend our inalienable right of gun ownership, whether it be for sport or protection.
