The Legislature Is Back In Session!

August 1, 2016

Guess who’s back? The legislature has returned from its summer recess and are poised to take up and debate many bills that CRPA both opposes and supports.

Before their break began, Governor Jerry Brown and our California legislature took unprecedented steps in limiting your Second Amendment rights. CRPA and our allies are currently hard at work, forming our battle plan to undo these terrible infringements of our civil liberties. Below, you will find a brief synopsis of bills that CRPA supports and opposes; these bills will be debated on in the coming months by our lawmakers in Sacramento. As you all know, rules can be suspended and other tricks can be played, to bring up new legislation, so we must stay vigilant! All bills must be passed by both the Senate and the Assembly by August 31st, so the time to act is now!

AB 1664 (Levine): AB 1664 would define “detachable magazine” to mean an ammunition feeding device that can be removed readily from the firearm without disassembly of the firearm action, including an ammunition feeding device that can be removed readily from the firearm with the use of a tool.

SB 1407 (De León): SB 1407 requires a person to get a serial number from DOJ before making or assembling a gun. Retroactively requires serial numbers to be placed on (some or numbers of) firearms dating back to 1899.
