Support Science Based Pig Management

CRPA is proud to support AB 2805 (Bigelow, R) which makes it easier for hunters and land owners to maintain wild pig populations.
Currently, in California, wild pigs are an invasive species that do incalculable damage to wildlife. In addition to the damage they do to native species and undeveloped land, wild pigs also do millions of dollars in damage to residential, commercial, and agricultural properties across the state.
Under current law, a wild pig tag or depredation permit is required to hunt these pigs. By changing the status of wild pig to an “exotic game mammal”, AB 2805 will streamline the process to harvest these invasive animals. AB 2805 makes no change to the current law allowing for the removal of wild pigs that threaten commercial, residential, and agricultural property.
By making a pig stamp instead of a tag, this bill makes pig hunting far more affordable for hardworking California hunters. This change will enable more hunters to harvest this invasive, yet delicious, species.
