A Win for the Future of Hunting!
Today, Senator Nielsen, champion of California hunter conservationists, presented AB 2151 (Gray, D) which aims to reduce the cost of hunting for California’s youth. The passage of AB 2151 today in the Senate is a critical victory for the California Hunting and Conservation Coalition. AB 2151 represents an important first step toward revitalizing hunting in this state.
In the last decade, California has seen a significant drop in the number of active hunters. This decline poses a major threat to our state’s conservation and wildlife management programs. The high cost of big game hunting in this state made it nearly impossible for the average family to afford these hunts for their children. This bill will reduce the price of youth big game tags to $20, making hunting affordable for all California’s youth.
While the bill passed the Senate by a healthy margin, Senators Jim Beall, Holly Mitchell, and Ben Allen voted against affordable hunting for young Californians! Their vote against AB 2151 shows a blatant disregard for the future of wildlife conservation and land management in California. But what do you really expect from big city liberal elitists?
We would like to thank all the Senators who voted in favor of this bill. Their vote today will help secure the future of hunting and wildlife conservation in this state. We would also like to thank Assemblyman Adam Gray for authoring this excellent piece of legislation; Assemblyman Gray and his staff have done a phenomenal job seeing this bill through to the finish line.
Additionally, CRPA would like to thank all of the members of the Hunting and Conservation Coalition for their hard work supporting this bill. This bill illustrates that when we work together, we can succeed in crafting meaningful hunting policy and turn the tide in favor of California’s hunter-conservationists.
With its passage in the Senate, AB 2151 is so close to becoming law. After a concurrence vote in the Assembly, the bill will go to the governor’s desk, where he will either veto it or sign it into law. Contact Governor Brown and urge him to sign AB 2151; urge him to support young hunters and the future of California Conservation.
