April 13, 2018

Assemblyman Jim Cooper wants a blank check to tax law abiding gun owners! AB 2497 (Cooper, D) wants to create a new tax on firearms and ammunition in order to pay for increased security at California schools.

Assemblyman Jim Cooper wants a blank check to tax law abiding gun owners! AB 2497 (Cooper, D) wants to create a new tax on firearms and ammunition in order to pay for increased security at California schools.

While CRPA is in favor of protecting our students, it is ludicrous to attempt to fund that protection on the backs of law abiding gun owners. Instead of finding a legitimate source of funding for the defense of California schools, Assemblyman Cooper intends to punish the gun owning community.

It is punitive and unjust to punish the vast majority of us for the crimes of less than 1% of gun owners.

To make matters worse, they want this bill passed before they even decide the rate for this unnecessary tax! They expect us to give them a blank check to tax our most basic constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

We cannot let this happen! CRPA and all law abiding gun owners should stand up to this outrageous piece of bad legislation.

The Assembly Committee on Revenue and Taxation will vote on AB 2497 this Monday! YOU can help stop this bill! Call the members of the committee and urge them to vote NO on AB 2497. Five minutes of your time could save law-abiding gun owners millions of dollars. Thank you for your support!
