Santa Clara to Host Community Summit on Firearms and Safety

April 22, 2018

On Saturday, April 28, Santa Clara County Supervisor Dave Cortese will be hosting an event titled “Community summit on Firearms and Safety” at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds. According to thepress releasefor the event, participants will be asked to commit to engaging in a civil discourse that will result in a report to be shared with the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors at a later date.

The summit followslast month’s meeting of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors where a proposal to prohibit the sale and possession of firearms on County property was discussed. While no such proposal has yet been introduced, it would have the effect of prohibiting gun shows from operating at any county-owned fairgrounds. In response, attorneys for NRA and CRPA submitteda joint-opposition letterhighlighting the superfluous nature of the proposal, as California law already prohibits the sale or transfer of firearms from occurring at gun shows.

We encourage all our members to attend the summit and voice their opinion. To assist our members who wish to do so, NRA and CRPA have prepared aninformative flyerhighlighting many of the myths perpetuated by anti-gun advocates, as well as the safety and educational programs offered by NRA and CRPA that are proven, effective, alternatives to any anti-gun ordinance or prohibition.

The summit is scheduled to run between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds – Fiesta Hall, located at344 Tully Road, San Jose, CA 95111. Entry and parking are free, and a continental breakfast and boxed lunch will be provided. To register, visithttps://www.sccgov.org/sites/d3/events/firarms-saftey-summit/Pages/register.aspx.
