If It Quacks Like A Duck….

December 4, 2015

The Washington Post is reporting this morning that officials have discovered that the female terrorist who shot and killed 14 in Monday’s attack had previously “pledged allegiance” to ISIS on social media. Given that the terrorists deleted the post in a possible attempt to be able to carry out more attacks, one sees Paris-style techniques of waging war on the American People in the Continental United States.

Yet due to an Administration that is fixated on hyper-technicalities of what constitutes terrorism, the American People are left wondering as to what steps to take to protect themselves in a time of declared, asymmetric war.

This is despite the performance of law enforcement. Police arrived on scene to save lives, by offering their own in an attempt to halt an active shooting, in 4 minutes. This seems to be a standard for professional law enforcement, as it matches the performance of the North Hills Jewish Center by LAPD.

Yet in those 4 minutes, the terrorists were able to lay 3 improvised explosive devices at the Regional Center, shoot and kill 14 while wounding another 21, then escape to be at large in the City of San Bernadino. What the terrorists were doing during the first shooting and the ultimate police chase and final shootout has yet to be determined by law enforcement. Whether they went back to a house in Redlands, drove around back streets, or even “hid out” at any one of a number local mosques and Islamic centers has yet to be established or proven.

So magnificent as a 4 minute response time is, citizens seem to be recognizing that police cannot be everywhere, and especially at the exact moment when murder is being committed.

Common sense does seem to have broken out, in that people appear to be buying firearms and taking training for firearms use for self-defense purposes. This is despite the “mau-mauing” by the Media and the White House as to the role of constitutionally guaranteed firearms in US society.

But what yet remains to be seen is the actual reaction of the Muslim Community, the ummah, both here in the United States and the rest of its members across the world where Muslims live.

Yes, it’s true that CAIR and other Muslim groups in Southern California have condemned the attack in clear terms.

Yet it’s also true that Muslim activists are also proclaiming concerns about “backlash” against Muslims just because individuals claiming allegiance to Islam have been carrying out attacks in the United States since the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993.

It is hard to say if such a reaction is cultural. As pointed out by Katie Pavlich this morning on Fox News’ “Outnumbered”, imagine the reaction in a Muslim country like Pakistan if Christians had attacked a party during Ramadan that resulted in Muslims being killed. It could be that CAIR has a practical, over political, concern that backlash could bring harm to Muslims in California and the US. This is also elevated to the extent that Pavlich and others on social media are noting that this was an attack on Christians and Jews during the time of the year when Hannakuh and Christmas are being celebrated.

Given this last, the CAIR announcement seems to be inadequate given that a war being waged by self-professed Muslims is killing American civilians at home.

Perhaps if CAIR could facilitate intelligence gathering more openly, or even lead an effort to fight and defeat ISIS and other “jihadi” groups active worldwide, their image might improve in the eyes of doubters.

Otherwise, innocent Muslims in the United States may just bear the brunt of social ostracism that the appearance of not standing with the United States that is under attack may result in. That would be a disservice to Muslims who have embraced the United States and even have served their country with distinction.

Clearly, the ball is in CAIR’s court. Let’s see what their answer is.
