CRPA Statement On Orlando Terrorist Attack

June 13, 2016

CRPA grieves with the families and loved ones of the victims and wounded in yesterday’s attack. Orlando, Florida was forever changed at the hands of a man who had no regard for life or our laws against murder.

Many will immediately flock to supporting gun control. However, few will be inclined to hold responsible the perpetrators behind the terror that was faced. Early reports suggest that Islamic Terrorism was responsible for the inspiration behind the attack, yet the response was to go after citizens who followed the legal process to obtain firearms. As usual, those who seek to disarm us will use any tragedy to push gun control.

We commend the swift response by Orlando law enforcement to save lives and bring to a stop the developing tragedy. Their heroic actions, and selfless service underlines the need to protect our freedoms and our safety. This Tuesday in Sacramento, in both the Senate and the Assembly, we will be facing ten bills that will limit our right to protect ourselves. All of these bills will be put forward in the name of yesterday’s attacks.

The response to the violence, should be to support legislation and policies that allow for every American to have the chance to protect themselves. We cannot continue to let the gun grabbers use tragedies to push their own agenda without pointing out that it does nothing to increase safety. This is why CRPA will not be bullied into giving up the fight to defend our Second Amendment rights. Please take the time to call your elected officials and tell them that now more than ever we have to protect our rights.

It is with heavy hearts that we urge you to keep the victims, wounded, and families in your thoughts and prayers. In light of the heavy toll and senseless loss, we urge our members to stay vigilant about allowing the other side to use tragedy to push a political agenda. The worst response to attacks like this is to strip law-abiding citizens of their rights and the ability to protect themselves and their families.

Thank you,

Chuck D. Michel
President, CRPA
