CRPA Is Pleased To Announce The Outstanding Legislator Of 2016!

February 1, 2016

CRPA is proud to announce Assemblyman Brian Jones (R-71) as the recipient of the Outstanding Legislator award. CRPA annually recognizes and honors a legislator in California for work they’ve done to promote the Second Amendment and safe and responsible gun ownership in the state. Outstanding Legislator is a very distinguished award only given to those in public service who diligently protect the rights of Californians.

Assemblyman Brian W. Jones has served in the California State Assembly since December 2010.  He represents the 71st Assembly District, which encompasses Southern Riverside and Eastern San Diego Counties. Prior to his election to the State Assembly, Brian served on the Santee City Council, where he built a strong record of promoting pro-business policies, limiting the size of local government, maintaining low pension liabilities, and contracting out city services. This conservative approach to local government has allowed Santee to become one of the best places in Southern California to raise a family.

Brian has owned and managed businesses in East County and Santee, and most recently served as the Vice-President for Diversified Realty Advisors in El Cajon. In the past, Brian managed Primary Focus, the nation’s largest non-profit character education assembly program for elementary schools. He also served as a full time staff member at Sonrise Community Church in Santee. While serving as both a local elected official and a small businessman, Brian regularly became frustrated by actions from Sacramento. In 2009, he decided to run for the Assembly with a desire to make California the Golden State once again.

As an Assemblyman, Brian has focused on several priorities: reducing the size and scope of state government; relieving businesses of onerous rules and regulations; lowering taxes on small businesses and families; serving as a government watchdog on behalf of taxpayers; and protecting the Second Amendment.

Brian currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Business, Professions and Consumer Protection Committee and is a member of the Appropriations, Budget Subcommittee 1: Health and Human Services, Budget, Joint Legislative Ethics, and the Joint Legislative Audit Committees. His deep understanding of the issues was recognized by Tech America, when he earned the “Tech Champion” award in 2012 and by the California Chiropractic Association in 2014 when he was named the “Chiropractic Champion.”

Brian has been a Santee resident since 1978, attending Santee Elementary, Cajon Park Jr. High, and Santana High School and later San Diego State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration.  He is on the Board of Directors of the East County Boys and Girls Club, a member of the Lemon Grove Rod and Gun Club, and a lifetime member of the California Rifle and Pistol Association.  In his spare time, Brian enjoys mountain biking, off-roading, motorcycling in the 71st Assembly District, and spending time with his wife, Heather, and his three children, Christopher, Melina, and Matthew.

Assemblyman Jones will be awarded at CRPA’s 141st Annual Awards Banquet, held Saturday, February 27, 2016, at the Orange County/Costa Mesa Hilton in Costa Mesa, California. For tickets or more information about the banquet, click here!
