CRPA And NRA To Host Webinar On Approved “Assault Weapon” Regulations

August 3, 2017

On July 31, 2017, the Office of Administrative Law (“OAL”) officially approved DOJ’s proposed “bullet-button assault weapon” regulations. These regulations are now law, and they, among other things, govern how owners of certain “bullet-button assault weapons” are to register their firearms with DOJ by July 1, 2018.

The OAL’s approval is surprising because these regulations are virtually the same as the previous set of “bullet-button assault weapon” regulations the OAL formally rejected on June 26, 2017, after CRPA and NRA lawyers submitted an opposition letter that point-by-point dismantled DOJ’s regulations as unlawful.

Regardless of why the OAL decided to approve these regulations, the fact remains that these regulations are part of California law now. If you want more information about these new regulations and how to comply with the new law, come join us for the free live webinar that we will host on Tuesday, August 8, 2017, at 12:00 pm (PST).  You can register here for this webinar.

For those who missed our May 25, 2017, webinar on DOJ’s previous attempt at “bullet-button assault weapon” regulations, or have further questions about it, this August webinar will be especially helpful because it will largely cover the same material as the May 25, 2017, webinar (as there are no substantive changes between the most recent set of regulations and the set discussed during the May webinar). For instance, we will provide a detailed explanation of how to register your firearms and how to determine whether your firearms ought to be registered. We will also give you a look at the excessive personal information requirements, requirements on providing information on where and how the firearm was acquired, requirements that individuals provide DOJ with photos of their firearms, requirements for serializing home-built firearms, expansion of the “assault weapon” definition to “bullet-button” equipped shotguns, and restrictions on removing the “bullet-button” once the firearm is registered as an “assault weapon.” So be sure to register as soon as you can to stay informed about these illegal regulations!
