Fullerton, Calif – The California Rifle & Pistol Association (CRPA) last night hosted a safety class for faith leaders worried about attacks on their places of worship. The packed seminar brought together more than 60 faith leaders from Southern California’s churches and synagogues.

This first-of-its-kind event will be given again as the response was phenomenal. Unfortunately, we had to turn some people away. The safety class was led by CRPA President and General Counsel Chuck Michel, CRPA Executive Director Rick Travis, and Police Officer & Minister Jimmy Meeks.

“I was amazed at the amount of information that was offered in such a short period of time. I believe all attendees were relieved to get this training. I am now more prepared if such an event would occur in my church. I have been concerned about the safety of our loved ones, friends and parishioners,” said Rodger Huber with Saint Angela Merici Catholic Church.

“We were thrilled at tonight’s turnout. We realize that faith leaders have been concerned by the public space attacks. They want to be prepared and we have the training that can equip them in case of a crisis,” said Rick Travis, Executive Director of California Rifle & Pistol Association. “It’s our intent to ensure that every house of worship in California has the training to protect their members.”

The next forum will be held in Orange County, Calif. Interested parties may contact emorris@crpa.org.
