Field Report

July 31, 2015

Greetings! I am pleased again to report that our field reports are progressing above our initial expectations. The second quarter of this year has demonstrated what an effective team of our Board of Directors, Staff, and Volunteers are capable of. Through our many alliances with other groups such as the NRA and hunting organizations, we continue to advance our rights.

I am happy to update you on our efforts in the central California region starting with our first 3 gun match held at the Lemoore Sportsman Club where over 60 shooters gathered together for a weekend of fun. We want to thank Tim Stone and his staff of volunteers for an outstanding job and look forward to many more events in the future with them. I would also like to thank Board Director Tom Thomas for his support of this event. Look for the multi-gun events to continue to be a part of the CRPA’s overall shooting sports support as we move next to the West Coast Steel Championships the last weekend in June in Piru. This is an awesome event and the food is said to be fantastic.

In San Diego, we take our hats off to our marvelous staff of volunteers who always amaze us on how they meet the needs of members and in recruiting new members from the southernmost part of the state. Whether it’s working gun shows or local shooting sports events these volunteers are doing an amazing job. Special thanks to Vikki, Mike, Gary and crew for a job well done.

The northern team of outstanding volunteers such as Kathy, Galvan, Tim, Board Director Liz Smith and her husband Rob, Board Secretary Bob Hodges and their respective crews are setting new records for events ranging from gun shows from the bay area to Chico over to Reno and down to Vacaville and back out to San Jose. They have also been staffing gun range grand openings, store events, and regional expos. Bob was instrumental in our first Rim Fire Championship held at the Richmond Gun Club. Their hard work is paying off huge dividends as we now receive requests for the CRPA to be present at other events. These vital opportunities are allowing us to expand our programs and influence statewide.

In the Los Angeles Basin, we staffed a Crawfish Boil to raise thousands of dollars for new Boy Scout ranges, gun shows, and family events. Special thanks goes out to Board Director Jerry Johnson and his wife Cheryl, Manny, Carmen and their crews for going the extra mile. They were active in events that ranged from the Mojave desert to the mountains in southern California to the beach communities. I want to also thank the West end Gun Club for a great event that showcased both organizations.

The CRPA has had wonderful assistance from our various partnerships and I want to highlight the work of tow individuals from Michel & Associates. Sean Brady has been in the trenches the past year on behalf of hunters and it has been my pleasure to speak side by side with him at hunting meetings and events this past year. Lee Smith has also been fighting for the rights of range operations and has crisscrossed the state and the nation to build support for this critical area. He and I will begin meeting with ranges as part of our new outreach beginning in July.

Our event staff has a calendar now planned out into April of 2016 that is setting more records for events attended and sponsored by your CRPA. We are taking the message of your organization to the entire state to promote all that we love in the shooting sports. We would love to have you join our growing team of volunteers so please don’t hesitate to call us and be a part of this exciting team of patriots.
