CRPA ALERT: City of San Diego Considers Gun Control Ordinances

July 10, 2019

THE FIGHT IS ON AGAIN IN SAN DIEGO

San Diego has been the hot bed of ill-conceived gun control activity over the past months. There was a continuous push from anti-gun activists to ban gun shows at the Del Mar Fairgrounds which was stopped by a CRPA lawsuit, the County attempting to stop recreational shooting on federal lands, and now the San Diego City Attorney pushing a gun control ordinance that would force gun owners to lock up their firearms in their own homes no matter what their individual circumstances and report lost or stolen firearms in a manner that conflicts with current state law. Once again San Diego is focused on criminalizing law-abiding gun owners instead of stopping the criminal elements at the root of the problem.

CRPA and CRPA attorneys submitted letters this week strongly opposing this proposed ordinance. The City Attorney even admitted that this ordinance would be unenforceable, and studies show that these types of laws do not work and do not make people safer in their own homes. Mandatory locked storage laws give criminals more power to commit crime without fear of armed resistance.

Laws like this are clearly in opposition to the Supreme Court ruling in Heller which guaranteed the right for persons to lawfully have operable firearms in the home for self-defense.

CALL TO ACTION FOR ALL CRPA MEMBERS
MONDAY, JULY 15th AT 2:00 PM

We need your help! If you are in the San Diego area and can attend the meeting, please plan on being there and speaking against this item on the agenda. It is important that the City Council hears a strong voice of opposition to these ineffective proposed laws. It is important that we have a strong showing of opposition to this ordinance and pack the room.

The City Council will consider the draft resolution on:
Monday, July 15, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.

LOCATION:
City Administration Building
Council Chambers
12th Floor
202 “C” Street
San Diego, CA, 92101

If you cannot be at the meeting, please take a moment to submit a comment via the agenda comment form. These comments will be made part of the official record and it is important that the City Council hears from gun owners and Second Amendment supporters in the community.

San Diego seeks increased gun control in gun storage and stolen firearm reporting ordinances – all items which will hurt law-abiding citizens while empowering criminals.
