“Other” “Assault Weapon” Registration Opening October 1st.

September 30, 2021

This is a notice for anyone who may possess what is known as an “Other” type of firearm.

Earlier this year CRPA joined with Franklin Armory in a lawsuit challenging DOJ’s intentional delay in fixing their system so that it would allow firearms that do not meet the current legal definition of a shotgun, pistol, or rifle (considered “other” firearms) to be registered and that lawsuit is pending.

While that lawsuit is pending, current owners of certain “other” type of firearms may need to review our detailed information bulletin to familiarize themselves with the recent changes to California’s “assault weapon” laws and determine whether their “other” type firearm is considered an “assault weapon” under California law and what steps they can take, if any to ensure their continued possess is lawful.

OWNERS OF “OTHER”TYPE FIREARMS NOW CLASSIFIED AS “ASSAULT WEAPONS” WHO WISH TO CONTINUE THEIR LAWFUL POSSESSION IN CALIFORNIA WITHOUT MAKING ANY MODIFICATIONS MUST SUBMIT REGISTRATIONS BY MIDNIGHT, DECEMBER 31, 2021

The following information has been prepared to assist CRPA members and owners of “other” type firearms regarding the registration process which runs from October 1, 2021 at 9:00AM to December 31, 2021at 11:59PM. Additional information regarding alternatives to registration are included in the information bulletin link below.
