Red Wave Surging?

May 21, 2026

California Republicans are outperforming Democrats in early voting — and Sacramento is panicking.

With the June 2nd primary just weeks away, Republican turnout is at 6% statewide vs. Democrats at 4%, despite Democrats holding a 2-to-1 voter registration advantage.

In the latest installment of CRPA TV, Legislative Director Rick Travis breaks down what’s actually happening, including:

  • Orange County: Republicans up 10,000 ballots.
  • San Diego: Republicans at 11% turnout, nearly double the Democrat rate.
  • LA County: Republicans outpacing Democrats in turnout percentage.

Even in deep blue territory, the numbers are shifting. Meanwhile, Democrats are so concerned about losing the governor’s race to two Republican candidates that a Democrat strategist just filed a 2028 ballot initiative to repeal California’s top-two primary system entirely.

Governor Newsom has reportedly referenced a “break glass” emergency to prevent Republican control. All this AND a budget crisis, corruption scandals, Medi-Cal mismanagement, and Carl DeMaio’s Reform California make for a midterm election year that is even more chaotic than usual.
