CRPA TV Breaks Down Hemani Decision

June 18, 2026

A unanimous Supreme Court decision on a Second Amendment case is a rarity, but that’s just what we got this morning in the case of U.S. v. Hemani.

As CRPA President & General Counsel Chuck Michel noted this morning, the decision is narrow and does not provide the clarity of the Bruen standard we’re looking for, but it is nonetheless significant. A unanimous rejection of the kind of government overreach shown in this case is certainly a welcome sight.

In concert with our allies at Second Amendment Foundation, CRPA filed an amicus brief in the case that proved strongly aligned with the Court’s ultimate decision. CRPA regularly works with our allies in the 2A community on amicus briefs in cases of significance to lawful gun owners.

In today’s installment of CRPA TV, host Kevin Small dives further in to the decision, which includes surprisingly pro-2A remarks from justices we don’t often think of as supporting gun rights.

The announcement of the Hemani decision spurred hopes of a “Second Amendment day” at the Court that would have included a decision in Wolford v. Lopez as well. That decision, as well as a disposition on our Duncan cert petition, awaits action within the coming weeks.

There is still so much to be done! The Court’s actions in the closing days of this term will undoubtedly have a HUGE impact. There are cases piled up at the Ninth Circuit and many more that would benefit from clarification of the Bruen standard.
