Chuck Michel Breaks Down Hemani Impacts
Last week’s unanimous ruling in U.S. v. Hemani was certainly cause for celebration in the 2A community. Any time the government gets their hands slapped for stripping away gun rights for huge groups of people, it’s a good day.
But what impact will the ruling have on other cases, particularly as it was narrowly tailored to the case at hand, is a murkier question. To help unpack that, CRPA President & General Counsel Chuck Michel drops in for a chat with CRPA TV host Kevin Small.

For a decision that was unanimous, Hemani generated a surprising four separate opinions, including an intriguing concurrence from Justice Thomas and another concurrence “in the judgment” (but apparently not the reasoning) from Justices Alito and Kagan, a pair not often ideologically aligned.
The focus now shifts to the announcement of a decision in Wolford v. Lopez, which should happen in the next couple weeks. Wolford challenges Hawaii’s “sensitive places” statute, a law quite similar to Ca. That decision, as well as a disposition on our Duncan cert petition, could happen any time in the next couple weeks.
