Left to Right: Sheriff Villanueva Switches Parties

These are heady political times. Donald Trump returned to office on the strength of an unlikely political coalition that challenged long-held assumptions among the pundit class. Little of what we thought we know about seems very certain, and that’s led to some interesting news.

 

High-profile elected officials like New York City Mayor Eric Adams and Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson have defected from a Democratic party they felt no longer aligned with their values. And here in California, a political dominated by Democrats for decades, a prominent elected official has abandoned his Democratic roots to join the Republican party.
