CRPA Members Rally In Sacramento For AB 1038

April 29, 2025

Today, conservationists, hunters, law enforcement, and wildlife advocates joined forces at the California State Capitol to push Assembly Bill 1038 over the line — the critical “Bear Bill” that reintroduces responsible dog hazing to help manage California’s out-of-control bear population.

Given that the legislature’s approach to wildlife conservation can be as misguided as their approach to public safety, CRPA wanted to make sure we rolled out in force to back the bill’s strategic approach to control the state’s black bear population. Estimates show the black bear population in California between 60,000-80,000, increasing the number of human-bear interactions.

CRPA Legislative Director Rick Travis, who led the rally today at the Capitol, stopped by CRPA TV to provide an update on the issue and the bill itself. Watch now!
