Why else would gun control advocates attack youth shooting sports and summer camp? Hint: It’s not about public safety or putting criminals behind bars. The attempt to demonize lawful exercise of Second Amendment rights makes it more likely that a wider swath of society tolerates increasingly stringent restrictions on those rights.
In the context of this battle, publicly declaring the position that fundamental constitutional rights are indeed fundamental has, bizarrely, become a newsworthy event. Which brings us to City of Redding Mayor Tenessa Audette, who recently led her City Council to pass a proclamation reaffirming the City’s position that the Second Amendment will be respected in the face of the onslaught of restrictions placed on lawful gun owners.
