Stop SB 464 & SB 497

Assembly Appropriations Hearing Two Bills This Wednesday Aimed At Gun Owners’ And Small Business Rights

Senate Bill 464 and 497 are both set to be heard this Wednesday in Assembly Appropriations. We have one more chance to stop two bad bills before they make it to the Assembly floor.

SB 464 (Hill) if enacted will create a long and confusing list of requirements for firearms dealers regarding storage of their inventory. An equally long list of exemptions will only create confusion among dealers and would make enforcement a regulatory nightmare. While some of the Big Guys are making deals with politicians, this bill still comes with unnecessary costs and red tape that will make it impossible for California’s small businesses to comply with the law.

SB 497 (Portantino) limits transfers and purchases of firearms to one per month; extending the current handgun law to long guns. Assemblymember Santiago tried this last year, but the governor vetoed it. Now it’s back again. Even with exemptions for our licensed hunters, SB 497 will still greatly impact recreational and competitive shooters.

If passed, together, SB 464 and SB 497 will eliminate small mom and pop gun shops, and eradicate the ability of California gun owners to reasonably purchase firearms.
