The Shows Must Go On!

August 13, 2022

Today, B&L Productions (Crossroads of the West), California Rifle & Pistol Association, Second Amendment Foundation, Asian Pacific American Gun Owners Association, and others filed a lawsuit in federal court that challenges state Senator Min’s legislation, SB 264, that bans gun shows at the Orange County Fairgrounds by prohibiting the sale of firearms and ammunition there. Access a copy of the filing here.

After CRPA, SAF, GOC, and others successfully defeated a ban on gun shows at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in federal court in 2019, Min, pushed by gun owner hating Gavin Newsom, tried to get around the First Amendment issues that caused the court to strike down the Del Mar gun show ban. In seeking other ways to essentially ban gun shows, they came up with SB 264 — which bans the sale of guns and ammo on the property, rather than banning the gun show itself.

“This sneaky law creates a distinction without a difference,” said CRPA President Chuck Michel, “The intent is still to effectively ban gun shows as a step towards eliminating the gun culture. Min is just a cog in wanna-be-president Newsom’s war on the rights of legal gun owners and already heavily regulated state/federal licensed businesses.”

Newsom wants to eliminate a meeting place where gun owners go to discuss guns, gun safety, gun laws, and gun politics. This a political agenda being played out by those who seek to end gun owners as a political force. Newsom’s Blue Resistance to the Supreme Court’s recent decision on the Second Amendment includes taking away your First Amendment rights too. He has even gone so far as to ban youth shooting sports promotions as a way to make this generation of gun owners the last.

CRPA and this coalition of plaintiffs will continue to fight for your First and Second Amendment rights in the courts because the legislature doesn’t even allow opposition voices to be heard on anti-gun-owner legislation being passed. The courts are our last option to fight back and swing the Constitutional Hammer of Justice to retain our right to choose to own a gun for sport or to defend you family..
