Independence Day is arguably the most important day in American History. On July 4, 1776, this great nation declared its independence from Britain; ever since then, the United States has been a shining beacon of freedom to the world. Today we celebrate the hard-won rights and liberties that make this nation great, and honor those who have fought to defend them. We will celebrate with fireworks, barbecues, and parades, but we cannot let the festivities cloud our understanding of what truly happened. The Declaration of Independence was made in reaction to the events of April 19, 1775, when the British attempted to seize our guns at Concord. On that fateful day, our forefathers stood up against a tyrannical government trying to disarm its own people. Today, nearly two and a half centuries later, the CRPA proudly continues that legacy of protecting the right to bear arms; we stand with the people of California to protect and defend that right every day. Never forget that in the fight to expand and preserve our rights, we are all in this together. Have a happy Fourth of July, and God bless America!
